Surrender

like hands formed to bless earth
reveal life purpose
Leaf senescence is a complex degenerative process in which the constituents of cells are broken down in order to be stored away and subsequently accessed to support growth.

about to fall
‘On 25 April 1915 Australian soldiers landed at what is now called Anzac Cove on the Gallipoli Peninsula.
For the vast majority of the 16,000 Australians and New Zealanders who landed on that day, it was their first experience of combat. By that evening, 2,000 of them had been killed or wounded.
The Gallipoli campaign was a military failure. However, the traits that were shown there – bravery, ingenuity, endurance and mateship – have become enshrined as defining aspects of the Australian character’.

Usually found in humid and heavily forested upland regions along the east coast of Australia, this male King Parrot visited suburban Springvale recently. He raised my spirits when I took lunch in a quiet spot whilst suffering from Covid-19.

Grassland in the process of becoming ghostland
Death remains a taboo subject yet this verse and its subversive message of looking after and being part of nature rather than concreting over it in a vain attempt to buy immortality deserves wider consideration.

Vita’s vital staff
This verse is inspired by two things: (a) the staff of Cafe Vita, who delivered a Christmas card to me today with my coffee, and (b) Dr Roy’s essay ‘Is love real or a facade’, which explores what happened to love in the midst of the Covid crisis.
cheers brau covid-friends
strangers making all at home
no sign of fear
I’ve used the Scottish word ‘brau’ because it means excellent or wonderful, and can mean brave. Through the Covid lock-downs (which were severe in Melbourne Au) and between them, we supported each other in a gentle and friendly way that continues.
